The evolution of Photoshop

Brings back many memories. Hit the link [ http://www.hongkiat.com/blog/evolution-of-photoshop/ ] for the evolution of icons, splash screens, toolbars, etc. Here’s a taste…

1958-2009

I’m not as affected by MJ’s death as the rest of the world and I’ve seen a lot of really cheesy “tribute”  graphics, but I thought this one was pretty legit.

I guess our London office did something with the same camera too, I’m assuming the results were just as amazing looking.

What seems to start out as just a little girl being a little girl in front of a camera, turns into a brilliant and, as it turns out, addictive little music video. I’ve contributed to well over 30 views on this one…

Clever, but it still doesn’t make me want to to buy a PC.

Billboards with the biggest impact – bleeding.

In New Zealand they’re having an issue with people not driving for the conditions. An ad agency came up with this very innovative idea… they created billboards that bleed. Watch the video…

Blink-182’s Augmented Reality Show…

First off… the new buzz word(s) for this year HAVE to be “augmented reality”. For those that don’t know, augmented reality is taking something in the real world and combining it with a virtual world. For example a baseball card manufacturer made cards that you hold up to a webcam and the players come to life. Pretty cool in theory, in actual practice I felt it left something to be desired.

I feel much the same way about the Blink-182 augmented reality show. It leaves something to be desired for me. It’s not a live show, the recorded it a while back. And it’s only 2 songs… eh. They say that a “concert where you can control the stage in some ways… is really unique and really pushes the boundaries.” I don’t really have any interest in that. I’d rather experience the actual reality of going to a show, not paying 3 bucks for some chips and watching a polished multicam, cleanly edited video piece.

Here’s a REALLY poorly put together video of some behind the scenes footage (lip-syncing & multiple takes destroy the idea even more for me)…

A better use of the technology could be found at Wimbleton, they let you hold your Android phone up and it would identify buildings around the grounds. That’s useful…

Crispin Porter + Bogusky launch experimental new site

Found this article on idsgn. Looks like Crispin Porter + Bogusky launched a website that they are calling “part agency site, part digital experiment”.cpb_shot“We like to think of it less like a site and more like a giant digital fishing net. [The website] gathers everything that’s relevant about us and our clients. The good, the bad, the mildy unnerving.”

What this site does is scour the social/media web (YouTube, Twitter, blogs and news sites) and post the content up about them and 8 of their main clients. (Microsoft, Volkswagen, Burger King, Old Navy, Domino’s Pizza, Coca-Cola, Guitar Hero, and Hulu.)

At this point they are claiming that they have no control over what goes up there. Check it out at beta.cpbgroup.com.
